Climate footprint

Again we drew up our detailed CO2 footprint for the whole of wpd for 2022. Since 2019, we have been using a professional computation program that ensures that we register the data in accordance with the internationally recognised standard of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

This means that we recorded data from 23 countries, 54 offices and more than 970 employees. The emissions calculated for 2022 were fully offset by our climate protection projects.

Accounting for our internal CO2 emissions will be maintained on this scale every year, for all companies, facilities and offices of wpd GmbH.

A joint platform for trade fair organisers, exhibition site operators, owners, exhibitors, associations and media who want to actively promote climate-neutral and waste-free trade fairs and congresses.

In collaboration with the German non-profit organisation atmosfair, wpd supports the construction and operation of small biogas plants in Nepal. Beyond that, we are also engaged in Guatemala in a reforestation project, and in Pakistan in a solar lamps project. In Germany, we are supporting the rewetting of marshland in Mecklenburg Western Pomerania.

The CO2 calculator of Klimaktiv is used to compute our CO2 footprint. It has been specially adapted to the company structure of wpd GmbH. Among other things, this requires individual emission factors to be stored for each of the countries in which wpd GmbH operates to ensure that no averages are included in the calculation. This enables a reliable, realistic result to be obtained. The calculator is naturally based on international standards and norms (Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14064-1). The standardised CO2 accounting system was developed as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety and certified by TÜV Nord CERT.
