European´s leading offshore developer wpd and turbine manufacturer Clipper are aiming for project in excess of 1,000 MW
Yesterday, wpd offshore GmbH submitted a bid in the UK offshore Round 3 tender to develop a offshore-project in excess of 1,000 MW. wpd is bidding together with turbine manufacturer Clipper Windpower, adding its 10 MW-technology to the proposal.  “As one of Europe’s leading offshore wind farm developers with an international project pipeline of 8,000 MW in Germany, Sweden, France, Finland and Italy we are looking forward to expand our development activities to the growing UK market. The UK Government and the Crown Estate expect the bidders to develop offshore wind farms successfully in a short period of time. That is wpd´s main competence which we have proved over the last years via the successful development on 5 offshore wind farms in Sweden and Germany all being fully consented ”, says wpd offshore’s managing director Achim Berge.
The UK Crown Estate asked for bidders for nine offshore zones around the British Island.  Achim Berge: “Our consortium bid marks the UK market entry of one of Europe’s most experienced wind power companies wpd, with Clipper Windpower’s UK-based wind turbine technology, strengthening the future of UK offshore wind generation. It also takes into account the constraints of the sea and local stakeholders by utilising wpd’s coastal water experience and bioregional quintain’s UK development record in a strong stakeholder engagement approach”.
“We are pleased to have been chosen by wpd as a partner in the Round 3 tender to supply Clipper’s 10 MW offshore turbines which are being developed and built in the UK” said Doug Pertz, Chief Executive Officer of Clipper Windpower.  “Coupling wpd’s offshore expertise with the world’s largest offshore wind turbine, which offers both economies of scale and technological benefits, will help assure a successful, long-term project and provide the U.K. with an offshore generation showcase.”
