wpd europe GmbH buys the wind farm project Tohkoja, situated on Finland’s west coast, from Finnish energy provider Fortum. wpd is planning the project with up to 26 wind turbines and an overall capacity of up to 83 Megawatt. The wind farm will be built in individual construction phases between 2016 and 2017 close to the municipality of Kalajoki – in the immediate vicinity of the wpd projects Jokela and Mäkikangas.
“The acquisition of the project Tohkoja is another important milestone for wpd europe in Finland and underlines our trust in Scandinavia as an important European wind power market”, says Helge Rau, head of M&A at wpd. With the three projects Jokela, Mäkikangas and Tohkoja, wpd is pursuing a pipeline of all together more than 600 MW. “After entering the market in 2007, today there are seven employees working at wpd’s office in Espoo. Here the Finnish offshore activities of wpd are managed as well, in particular the 400 MW project Suurhiekka, which is the first project with a valid permit and ready to be built”, says Rau.
