The Bremen wind farm developer wpd has recently won a contract in Spain’s current tender for renewable energies. With this award, the international company will implement more than 170 MW on the “Montes Torozos” plateau, by the end of 2019. wpd is thus opening up the European market further. Project development will be carried out by the subsidiary company wpd Development Renovables SL, which is located close to the project location in Valladolid in Castilla y León.

Spain’s current tender for renewable energies ended on 26 July and covered a total of more than 5 GW. Within the call for tenders spanning different technologies, the solar sector received the most awards with 3,900 MW. Wind power accounted for 1,128 MW. The tender was already the second this year, in May wind energy received over 99 percent of the total 3.000 MW. With these calls for tenders, Spain wants to get closer to its goal of generating 20 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2020.
