wpd has applied for the construction and operation permit for Finngrunden to the Government. In five years the wind park will be realized.

  • Finngrunden could be the Nordic region’s largest offshore wind park with 300 turbines and a total output of 1 500 MW. The park has the opportunity to provide two million people with electricity, says the project manager, Hans Ohlsson.
  • The project demonstrates that there are good geographical positions to carry out large-scale development of offshore wind energy in Sweden. In eleven years, Sweden’s energy consumption will consist of 49% renewable energy and makes it difficult to meet this goal without offshore wind power, says CEO, Charlotte Bergqvist.

Facts about the offshore wind park Finngrunden:
The wind park is located in a large base area about 40 kilometers from the mainland, east of Gävle in the economic zone. Within the design field, there is an opportunity to build a wind farm with a combined power of 1 500 MW. The estimated annual production is expected to be up to 5, 5 TWh (5500 million kWh), equivalent to electricity for 1 100 000 households. The construction phase is expected to start in the year, 2014.
