Carlo Schmidt to remain in seat as chairman
The internationally operating windpark developer wpd, Bremen, Germany, has raised its shares in Offshore Ostsee Wind AG from 50 % as yet to 100 % and has taken over the shares of the shareholder WIND-projekt GmbH. Offshore Ostsee Wind AG holds the completely approved offshore windparks Baltic I and Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea. According to wpd’s CEO Dr. Gernot Blanke, only the ownership changes – everything else remains “in the proved structures”. Carlo Schmidt (WIND-projekt, Börgerende, Germany) will remain chairman of Offshore Ostsee Wind AG; Achim Berge, managing director of wpd Offshore GmbH, will step on the board besides Dr. Blanke. “By our strong presence here we intend to consolidate our close cooperation with the state government, but also with maritime economy. Primary goal is the erection and operation of offshore windparks Baltic I and Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea,” states Carlos Schmidt.

“The business field of offshore windparks plays an important role in our strategy as international developer and operator of windparks. In this business field as well, we intend to finance, erect and finally operate these windparks in the Baltic Sea as well as in the North Sea after closing of approval. Takeover of WIND-projekt’s shares is the logical consequence to institute further steps for the realisation of the first projects,” says Dr. Blanke. “In the past years, Carlo Schmidt and his team of WIND-projekt have accomplished a lot in the development of these projects. Thus it is important for us not to change the common basis in order to further guarantee the close tuning between the planning agencies and the participating representatives of interests in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On the other hand, complete financing for the building of the projects is imperative, which we will supply on the basis of the takeover of 100 % of the company – just as in our onshore-projects,” states Dr. Blanke.
