Finland

There were 130 wind turbines with 197 MW connected to the grid in Finland at the end of 2011. Finland’s official national objective envisages an increase of the wind power production from the present 0.3 TWh to 6 TWh by 2020. In December 2010 a new feed-in law was enacted in parliament, which came into force effective April 1, 2011, after ratification by the European Commission.

The project development in Finland requires a strong focus on extensive public participation with a high cost of studies. In addition, the climatic conditions in the north of the country - with its long and icy winters - must be considered particularly.

The wpd group has been represented in the Finnish market by WPD Finland Oy since 2007 and it is currently developing projects throughout the country with six members of staff. Our objective is to connect 50 MW of wind power to the grid by 2015. Further projects with 230 MW are being planned.
