Bulgaria offers good wind potential as a new and emerging market in Europe. A subsidy for renewable energies with fixed tariffs was politically approved in 2005. Wind power projects with a total of 612 MW were being operated in Bulgaria at the end of 2011.

The wpd group is currently represented in Varna by one office and it has projects of 208 MW in the pipeline. Three projects with an output of over 70 MW have been approved already but a high-voltage cable line must be constructed before they can be realized.
