The wpd group has been active in the Finnish market since 2006 via its Helsinki office.

We are developing the “Suurhiekka” project as the first major offshore project in Finland and we were able to reach an important milestone with the appoval in February 2011, after four years of investigation and studies. The wpd group was awarded the prize for the best environmental impact assessment by the Finnish Union for Environmental Studies in March 2010 and a wind power project was distinguished for the first time as a result.

The Union justified its choice by declaring that the assessment of the most important environmental effects as well as the thorough consideration of the damage-limitation measures were worthy of recognition primarily. In addition, the interaction by the wpd group with the public, the project’s presentation to the local and affected population had to be described as exemplary.
